Twenty years ago if you told your parents, web designer, when asked what he wanted to be when you grew, your ad would have been greeted with a blank stare. Fast forward two decades, the same question, and the wing parents eyes with tears of pride. Why? To be a web designer is to be in the vanguard of a new type of industry.
A web designer in this new millennium is an ancestor of an entirely new industry. Although it is impossible to imagine the world without the Internet, the World Wide Web has only been around (in its commercial form, accessible) since mid-1990. In a very short space of time, the Internet has changed the way we think, how we relate, how we do business, how can we access information and even the way that date. The responsibility of a web designer is to present information on this superhighway mass of knowledge in accessible, enjoyable ways.
The role of web designer has risen faster in the world of commerce than any other position in recent times and yet the web designer can literally make history while living in relative obscurity. How many of us can call to mind the name of the founder of Facebook? Not many, but ask ten people on the street if they have heard of Facebook and you’ll probably get ten times yes. Of course, not all sites achieve the popularity of Facebook, Wikipedia, MSN or even Stardoll, but designers who are able to teach a target audience, draw them in, and to return to a particular site are very demanding high.
Just For years the most prudent of advertising was to buy advertising space in the yellow pages. However, if your company does not have its own website, is far from the competition. A good web designer can promote a multibillion-dollar company or a side business run-from-home – basement. May be a gap between the millions of sites competing to promote a product that would change the world or an idea, or can ensure all-natural soaps that do can be purchased online at his hometown. A web designer is much more than someone who makes beautiful things on the web. They are the new generation of superhero business, and as the first wave of this new category of work, come to lay the foundations for the new generation of designers.
So next time you’re enjoying a website that is easy to navigate, interesting, relevant and useful, give a shout in silence to the new type of pioneer: the web page designer.
